Students Papers "My Personal Experience on Course "Creative English"

My Personal Experience

It was my English teacher Mrs. Prokhorova who suggested me to take part in the contest of projects "My Virtual Home". There were two things that drew my attention: English and computer. I'm fond of both English and computing. On the other hand, the title of the project looked rather attractive, because I like to event something. I didn't hope to win, but it happened. So I got a chance to study at the distance course "Creative English".

The course comprised five lessons. Each lesson had two or three tasks that I was to do. Though the tasks were not too difficult, it took me more time than I expected. The main trouble was to gain a computer. If I had had a personal computer at home, I would have managed to complete the tasks in time and hadn't bothered other people. Usually I work at school in our computer laboratary. But on Saturdays the school is closed at 2 p.m. On Sundays the school doesn't work at all. So on Saturdays and Sundays I was searching for a computer. I kept on the proverb: Where there is a will, there is a way.

My English teacher Nadezhda Alexeevna was rather helpful. Her friends working for "Robotland" firm did their best to support me. It reminds me Sunday, 17. It was already 10 p.m. when I'd finished to do lesson 3. We were going to leave the office, when a massage from "Eidos" center came. I wonder whether Galina Alexandrovna, thecoordinator of the course, had been still working?! She answered my letter about teaching English CD-ROMs. I quite agree with her that to choose the one you need you should define your language problems and not believe all the advertising.

The fact is, studying at the course "Creative English" helped me to define my language problems. I have never dealt with treating and analizing a project. Now I know how to do it. It doesn't mean that I can do it perfectly. I got aquainted with some new words and expressions, the way of planning and structuring my ideas. Surely, these skills would help me in rendering a text at my English exam.

That stuff was worth of learning. At school we are taught how to write compositions. But we are not taught how to create things. The course "Creative English" provided the students with some strategies on inventing things and expressing ideas. I have never thought about the prossess of thinking. Some two years ago I came across a very interesting book "How to learn foreign words". To my mind, it was published by "Eidos" center. The book proves the idea that we can conrol and develop our memory.

Studying at the course I had a chance to read projects of other students. And it was the most exciting thing. Telecommunication helps us to get in touch and exchange the ideas. I appreciated the project by Ksenia Chelyadinova (Crimea) and the project written by a group of boys from Gaylord, Michigan, USA (MR. Vergeldt's Class Gaylord Middle School). I sent them my questions on the projects. But I was sorry not to receive their answeres. Using this ocasion I'd like to say that they are smart and bright. I enjoyed their illustrations. If I had had more time, I would have create cartoons and music to support my project.

In addition to the time problem I would once more complain that the end of the school term is not the best period to take part in any contest as well as to study at a course. Top classes have to consolidate the material in all subjects, are given a lot of papers and privite studies. I study at classic school and we take exams even in the 10th grade. On the other hand, the time is really saved.

The main advantages of studying at a distance course are as follows:there's no need to leave your home and school; the course material can be easily transformed and printed. Besides, studying at the course cost me nothing. I've got no father and my mother can't afford to pay my extra education. I'm deeply greatful to "Eidos" centre for organization this contest and course. I would like to thank my English teacher Nadezda Alexeevna Prokhorova, who inspired my love to English and computers. Thanks are also due to "Robotland" firm for sending and receiving E-MAIL massages.

Planning my personal educational goals, I look forward to taking part in contests on programming.

Malanushenko Anna
Nauchny Crimea, the Ukraine

In 1998 I took the first place in the competition named “My Virtual Home” made by Distance Evristic Learning Center “EIDOS”. So I have got a possibility of distance English course “Creative English” free of charge.

Because I have computer at home and I am good at it, I didn’t need to use paper and pen (also my writing is so “good”, that it will be unwise to write something on paper for help to myself).

All my works I showed to my school English teacher, and it helps me much: first, teacher undestood he didn’t teach English grammar much, second, teacher began to teach me personally and correct my mistakes on course tacks, and in third, it was good for my English ball.

Distance learning has it's good and bad lines, and here I will try to show them. Unfortunatelly, I'm not a psychologist, so I'll try to show only main pluses and minuses of distance learning.

Teacher cannot check pupil's knowledge level, in fact; there are no garancy that pupil make his work with himself only. It is necessary sometime, when a pupil by some reason can't or does not want to study himself, but needs for a good estimate of his distance teacher. Sorry to say, I don't know, is it usually or not…
It's hard to teacher to check most hard and not so hard themes for learning without visual contact with pupil.
Pupils learn to work personally, without any teachers. Also they learn to work with computer.
We have some more time to make lessons in distance school than in usual school, actually it means more "thinking time" for it.
I'd like to continue my distance learning, because it will be good for my knowledge, I think.

My Experience in the Distance Course of Creative English

When I was five I came to the unusual School of Free Development in Chernogolovka. And now for five years I'm on friendly terms with its Director Andrey Victorovich and Galina Alexandrovna. They sent me a Project "My Virtual Home" and I became the winner in my group. The main prize was this coarse "Creative English".

I learned how to set capacious questions. I learned many new words like "advertisement" or "disadvantage".

As I haven't got a computer at home I did all my answers in the copy-book.When I came home after dinner I made my work.

I think the pluses of distance school are: to this school can go many pupils and there are no many classrooms and money. I can't think of any minuses.

In future I want to study Creative English in distance school and I want tolearn how to do something with the computer.

Creative English

As soon as I took part in the project "My virtual house" and occupied the third place I became a student of the distant course "Creative English". I did not know at that time about a system of distant teaching, it was very interesting for me.

During my work I learned to work with English keyboard, to work with graphic editor, I got to know many new English words, I had a good opportunity to repeat English grammar.

We can see some stages in my work: I executed the first lesson in Russian(I used a paper for it) and I thought that I could correct the faults in my work; I executed the second lesson just in English but I used a paper(I worked with a paper first) I do it because I did not know how to write a review, my Russian teacher explained me how to do it she gave me a plan of a review; I executed the third and the fourth lesson in English and on computer.

I did all the lessons after school and these lessons took me different time, for example the first lesson took more time than the others because I needed to paint a picture.

Now I can compare a distant system of teaching with a usual system.Certanly a distant form of teaching has more advandages, then minuses. It has desavantages :the programm can have computer virus, most students can study only at school.

The distant system of teaching have many merits, but we enumerate some of them: the education passes very fast, every student has his own teacher, we can correspond with the children from other towns, countries, we can read and estimate their works.

Certanly distant system has many other advantages but the main advantage in my opinion, is that we study to work on computer. If I have one more possibility to study in another distantcourse I would accept it without any doubts. And I would like that more people all over the world have an opportunity to study at the course like this.
