WORKS

There are some of the winners works

Nomination “SIGN”

There are a lot of miracles in the world of numbers. What do you think this note means: 1+1=1 ?

“If I make friends with a boy and he also has a friend I’ll make friends with both of them.

(Ivan Nikolayev, 8 years old)

“When you take a white sheet of paper and put a violet paint on the whole list - then there comes a violet sheet of paper

(Ivan Krylov, 6 years old).

Nomination ”COMPOSITION”

Can you feel the way other things live? Imagine you are a mountain. Write your story on behalf of this mountain.

I am a mountain. I have different feelings then you do so I am warm when snow is on me. I am very big and my head is pointy. People use me to ski and climb and see the sunsets and sunrises. My body is rocky and hard.

I am similar to you in lots of ways too. I am a living creature. When people mow my grass, I get a hair cut. It feels good. I can see lots of things from where I am all the time. Of course, I always pretty much see the same thing. I eat like you do, I eat the air. I drink the rain but I only eat when it rains because I can't eat if I can't drink. I feel better when birds take the worms out of me to get the bugs out of me. When people ski on me it tickles. When people climb on me and put their grappling hook in me it hurts but I am OK. People drive on me to get a view and that tickles too (Hey that is a rhyme). I am warm any time the sun is on me.

I can not move but I am still happy. I am helpful to many people. I give them a good view. I am a good ski ground. I provide food for the birds. I am good for the sun because when the snow is high up it melts and it runs down me and turns into a lake and provides water for the sea animals. When it gets cold, it turns into ice for the skaters. Then it snows and we start all over again.

Of course I wish I could do a few things, like talk to the people on top of my head and I wish I could help the people who fell. I also wish that I could move so I could see everything like people can see.

I am not sad though, because I can provide so many things for the wild.

(Jeremy Lamb, 7years old)

Nomination “SYMBOL”

Think of symbol of a feeling of surprise and type it on computer in DOS using the keyboard letters and signs.

- Two men looked at each other and exclaimed: “Wow! You are the very image of me! (Julia Zolotayko, 9 years old)

Nomination “RESEARCH”

Now you are going to do the most captivating task. Take a clean sheet of paper and try to investigate it using only your organs of sense (eyes, nose, hands, ears, etc.). Put down the results.

“The paper seems to be firm when touching it becomes soft. It is white to be drawn on. It tastes like vitamins - half sour, half sweet. It doesn’t produces sounds. When you move it the sound is loud, creaking. The paper smells the grass. When you look through it and put your finger under it shadows and becomes grey, when you take it with both hands it’s white.

(Nadya Topalova, 6 years old).

Nomination “KNOW YOURSELF”

There is inscription on the ancient Greek temple in Delphi: “Know oneself”. What do you think these words mean?

“The Greek inscription, "know oneself," means that you have to search yourself to find out who you really are. If you only do what you think you can do, if you never try to find your limits, there will be no challenge to life. You have to explore the world with an open mind. If you don't believe in yourself, you might never think about some of the things may become your future. If you never consider taking skating lessons, you might not find out that your best skill lies there. If you do take that extra science course, you may become the next Marie Curie. The inscription means to take any and every opportunity you can get to learn about yourself and your talents.”

(Sarah Howison, 12 years old)

Nomination “SIGN”

Almost everything in the world can be ciphered in signs. What do you think this sign could mean:

= /\ =

“This sign is called the teeter totter of life. It leans back and forth throughout your childhood and adulthood. You'll have your ups and downs, your good times and bad times. But let your life fly high and remember the good times letting those shine through and let your bad times go. You'll be a better person and lead a better life without.”

( Melissa Murphy, Erin Jacobs, 13 years old )

“I think this sign stands for a family: a man =/ and a woman \= though the sides touching each other different they are the mirror reflections and together form a home: /\ . “

(Anna Malanutshenko, 12 years old)

“I think that this sign, =/\= should stand for all baby birds. I think that the equal signs look like eyes and the carrot looks like a small beak reaching upward to get a scrap of food. The symbol could be names "Sticking Up for Baby Birds" or SUBB. It would be called that because the bird in the sign is sticking up for someone or something. The organization for which this would be they symbol would be called SUBB. SUBB could be all about saving the babies of endangered birds.”

(Katie LaJeunesse, 11 years old)

Nomination “SYMBOL”

Now you’ve got a kind of philosophy task. Think of your own symbol of our world and make it on computer in DOS using the keyboard letters and signs.

Number 1 is encircled in meeting arrows. This sign is a symbol of the world unity.

Nomination “FUTURE”

People who can foresee future are called foretellers. Try to become this person. Write about 3 main deeds which people are sure to make in 21 century.

“In the 21st century,w e are sure to accomplish many things. We will probably land on Mars and maybe Venus. Near the end of the next hundred years, we may even have very expensive homes on Mars! You could travel to and from it like winter and summer homes, and for the same price as an airplane ticket.

By 2014 , we might get rid of all gasoline-powered vehicles. Cars and trucks will run on natural gasses and be fumeless. These cars may cost more, but fuel will be less expensive. We can reserve all the extra gasoline for people who can't afford new cars right away (the prices would go down to compete with other companies).

We could also find a way to patch the hole in the ozone layer. The space shuttle would find a way to stay in orbit just above it. Then the astronauts might lay out pieces of solid ozone or spray an ozone formula onto the hole. Whatever they do, it will help the world become a better place.

(Sarah Howison, 12 years old)
